It is not untrue that there are some interviews that are tougher than others – like those conducted for sales positions. Why, you ask? The difficulty of an interview depends on how much importance an employer gives to a position – a sales position is directly responsible for ensuring business for a company, so it only makes sense to hire people who have an inherent capacity to do increase sales.
So, how should one prepare for a sales interview? Your preparation depends on the position that you are applying for. If you are applying for one in which you will be supervising people – like that of a sales supervisor – you will have to concentrate on preparing answers to questions aimed at determining your leadership qualities (in addition to sales knowledge). If it is a sales girl position that you are being interviewed for, concentration will be on how well you can convince customers to buy a product.
Interview questions for a sales girl position will be aimed at determining:
• How much you know about customer services
• How well you can handle customer complaints
• If you can manage up-sells and ensure recurring business
• If you have a pleasant personality
Your manner and how you conduct yourself at the interview will be closely watched so make sure that you go in with a positive attitude. Here are some questions that you may be asked during the interview:
Why do you think sales is the most suitable career for you?
I believe that I have the skills, the patience and the qualifications that are necessary to work as a sales girl. Possessing the right attitude and the ability to implement strategies to impress prospective clients is my forte.
What do you dislike about working in the sales arena?
Having to walk away from a prospective sale due to company protocols is something that I have yet to be able to come to terms with. I understand that it is necessary to do this at times but I do not like it very much.
Many sales personnel are uncomfortable making cold calls. Does it bother you? Why or why not?
No. Making cold calls does not bother me. This is part of a sales girl’s work and I am quite well-versed in handling outbound sales calls.
How do you handle rejection?
Not making a sale when you really want to is all in a day’s work for a sales girl. It is no big deal. I do not dwell on a failure. I look forward to the next opportunity.
