Taking an interview seriously is important. Interviewers are always skeptic of interviewees.

They have to be if they want to hire the best person for the job. But since an interviewee is at the brunt of an employer’s skepticism, one has to keep positive.

Blunt questions may not be thrown at you because they want to put you down. Rather, this is a way of determining how well you can operate under adverse circumstances.

As a floorhand, what work duties have you performed in the past?
While working as a floorhand, I have been involved in operating tongs, picking up and laying down pipes, latching tubing in elevators, operating mud pumps, reporting and correcting safety hazards, assisting in removing and installing wellheads and associated equipment, operating rod wrenches, and maintaining rig equipment and tools.

What skills do you possess that make you an excellent choice to work in this position?
As a physically dexterous and well-organized individual, I believe that working as a floor hand is right down my alley. In addition to this, I have deep knowledge of basic mechanical functions, possess exceptional communication skills, and can work independently with minimal supervision.

As far as physical fitness is concerned, what can you do which is specific to the work of a floor hand?
As far as work-specific physical fitness is concerned, I can easily climb ladders, stand or stoop for long periods of time, and can lift up to 50lbs without any problems.

How do you feel about potential exposure to loud noises, airborne toxins, solvents and inflammable atmospheres?
I believe that all these are occupational hazards and one has to deal with them in appropriate ways. I am comfortable in working under these conditions as I am aware of all there is to know about protective gear and safety hazards, and I make sure that I stay safe.

If you discovered a workplace hazard that had great potential to harm your coworkers, and your immediate supervisor does not seem too concerned, what will you do?
If after notifying my immediate supervisor about the potential harm, he doesn’t take action, I will either report it to a management personnel or take matters into my own hands, depending on what the time constraint is.

If there was one thing that you would want to change in your existing workplace, what would it be?
If I were to change one thing in my existing place of work, I will bring in more training programs, especially aimed at safety management.
