A sales associate working at a Macy’s store is required to be hands-on in managing the many aspects of customer services, and backend sales duties.
To qualify to work as a sales associate at Macy’s, you need a high school diploma or a GED equivalent at the very least.
A pleasant nature, and the ability to handle both sales and cashiering work – sometimes simultaneously – is important if this is the work that you want to do. Some knowledge of sales work and customer services is essential if you want to work at this position.
A prior post in a retail capacity will go a long way in making you a good person to hire at this position. The ability to read and write properly, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and cash handling abilities are required. Moreover, you will need to be able to handle adversity, as you may come across instances where dissatisfied customers will need to be handled.

• Welcome customers as they enter the store, and engage them in conversation to determine their specific requirements.
• Determine customers’ requirements, and provide them with product suggestions.
• Lead or direct customers to their choice of products, and provide product information.
• Demonstrate product features and benefits, in a bid to convince customers to make informed buying decisions.
• Provide information such as product ingredients and expiry dates, and any discounts or deals that the store may be offering.
• Educate customers about different delivery options, including home and office delivery, and gift deliveries.
• Lead customers to the cash counters, and assist cashiers by scanning purchased products, and bagging them properly.
• Provide customers with information on return and exchange policies, and how to obtain after sales services.
• Arrange for customers’ purchases to be delivered to their vehicles, according to specified rules and protocols.
• Create and maintain effective liaison with the storage area personnel, to ensure timely and accurate delivery of products to the front end.
• Ascertain that all products are properly arranged on shelves, and ensure that they are dusted and rotated as required.
