6 Common School Office Assistant Interview Questions and Answers

1. What makes you an exceptional contender to work as an office assistant at our school?

Apart from the fact that I am a highly organized and hardworking individual, I have worked in a similar capacity in a school before. Since I have had extensive exposure to handling the various operational and administrative work of a school, I will be able to gel in well immediately, without much training.

2. What were your past work duties in a school office assistant role?

As an office assistant in an academic capacity, I have provided admission support to students, handled record-keeping and filing systems, created and maintained professional relationships with vendors and suppliers, created correspondence such as memos, letters, and official notices, and provided examination assistance to teachers.

3. Which part of your work do you find the most challenging?

I believe that coordinating academic events poses the most challenge. But since they are few and far apart, and we get sufficient notice to manage them, I have never been overwhelmed with this challenge. In fact, I like being challenged now and then.

4. If you were given the authority to change one thing in your present place of work, what would it be and why?

I would change the way record systems are maintained. This is because the system is not very safe and is at the mercy of viruses. I would also keep a paper backup system.

5. On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the highest), where would you rate your administrative skills? Why?

Realistically, I would give myself an 8. While I am highly organized and can effectively handle administrative tasks, I believe that there is always room for improvement.

6. How is working as an office assistant in a school different from working in a corporate environment?

I believe that working in both these capacities is not too different. The work is more or less the same. Of course, the types of people you have to deal with are completely different in a corporate environment.
