Updated on: May 24, 2022

Are you in a quandary because you have been asked to write a recommendation letter for a co-worker teacher and you cannot refuse?

Well, you have made the right few clicks. Landing on this page means that you are looking for information on how to write a recommendation letter in such a situation.

It is not rocket science to write one, but it does have some dos and don’ts if you want to write one that will help your coworker get the job.

Let’s look at the don’ts first. Recommendation letters cannot have a negative tone. And you cannot chart out the weaknesses of the person for whom you are writing the letter. What if they have weaknesses?

Well, you can choose to ignore them. There is no place for negativity on a letter of recommendation, even if the person for whom you are writing one does have negative points.

Coming to the dos of a recommendation letter, you have to keep the tone upbeat and positive.

You also need to make sure that you explicitly chart out the person’s strengths and accomplishments. If you feel that you cannot truthfully write a recommendation letter, you can decline to do so.

Because if you write one that is not truthful, you might be put in a strange place if the person is hired on your recommendation and something goes wrong.

Okay, so we are done! Now for a sample letter of recommendation for a co-worker teacher. Here it is:

To Whom It May Concern

It’s my absolute pleasure to recommend Patricia Hall for a Teacher position. We have been fortunate enough to have some wonderful teachers working with us. She has served our school for over 8 years. As her coworker, I can vouch for her sincerity in her work and the exceptional contribution that she has made to make the school what it is now.

Patricia is responsible for introducing the IB MYP (International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program) to St. James Academy. Due to her diligence and hard work, the school is not a candidate school anymore and has acquired the accreditation that it had been waiting for for a long time. She is responsible for creating entire curriculums on her own, and her lesson planning abilities are a cut above her peers.

In the role of a colleague, Patricia has always proved herself a kind and helpful person. Going the extra mile for her peers and students is second nature to her, and I have often looked up to her for advice and mentorship. Without hesitation, I strongly recommend her for a teaching position as I believe she can contribute highly to every aspect of teaching.

If there is anything more you need to know about Patricia Hall, please feel free to call me.

Sincerely,
