Retirement is a bittersweet time when people who have worked all their lives, say goodbye to their workplace and look forward to doing things they have worked for their entire lives. While many of us may not really want to leave the organization that we have worked for most of our lives, it is something we have to do and the moment is not unpleasant especially if we have saved up enough money to comfortably retire on.
However, it will be a sad day for the rest of the staff who has worked with you for many years. But this is no reason to mope – writing a congratulations letter to the person who has retired is a good way of saying a final goodbye. A retirement congratulations letter must be written in an upbeat and positive manner. While the event may not be completely happy, retirement means an end of an era – a possibly beautiful one – and it needs to be celebrated.
Your retirement congratulations letter does not necessarily need to say “goodbye” only. You can talk about a goodbye party that you may be holding in the retiree’s honor and a possible liaison in future as well. Have a look at this example:

Dear Mrs. Burgess:
On behalf of the entire company, I would like to congratulate you on your retirement. You have served Genex for most of your professional life and have been an immense source of encouragement and awe for many people who have worked with you. 25 years of pure dedication cannot be forgotten and we cannot completely express our gratitude in words.
You have been an asset to Genex Books while you worked here and will always remain a valuable member. Your hard work and futuristic vision has taken this company to new heights and your contribution to teambuilding activities in the last 10 years, have been tremendous to say the least.
We would like you to be part of our guest writing team for as long as you desire and we will contact you time and again for articles and editing services. In your honor, we are holding a lunch at Club 9 on Saturday, February 7 at 2:30 and would be honored if you can attend it and allow us to congratulate you in person.
Please endeavor to keep in touch with us as much as possible – your absence will be felt immensely.
