Resignation letters are often very difficult to write owing to many reasons. You have been part of an organization for a long time and the decision to move to another job may be riddled with apprehension. Also, letting your superior know that it is time for you to move on may not be easy. But resignation letters are important to write for many reasons; you need to inform your employer to look for an alternate and you also need a reference/experience letter which will help you with your next employment.
What will a resignation letter entail? It actually depends on what position you are resigning from and what your reasons are. For instance, a sales associate will write a resignation letter spelling out the great experience he or she has gained in addition to providing the reason for leaving.
The following resignation letter sample will provide you with an idea on how you can write one for this position.

Dear Mr. Adams:
It is with a heavy heart that I am resigning from my position as a sales associate from Macy’s. It was a very difficult decision for me to make as I had been quite content with my work here. I have been offered a position that I believe will be a long term career progression for me and since I am at the pinnacle of my sales career, I do not have a choice but to take it up.
Working at Macy’s has been absolutely wonderful experience; I attribute all the aspects of sales profession that I have learnt during this time to my supervisors and co workers. I am really thankful for their immense patience and guidance. If I was able to meet my sales targets, it was only because I was provided with a positive motivation, great leadership and good environment to work and excel.
As detailed in my contract, I am giving a two weeks’ notice with my last working day being March 25, 2014. If you feel that there are any handover notes that you would like me to prepare or train someone to take up my position, I will be more than happy to oblige. It was great being part of a progressive sales team to whom I owe a great deal.
