What type of buildings have you overseen work in?
I have had the luck of working for both commercial and residential buildings. In fact, I also held a position in a school, which made me understand the different mechanics of working in an academic environment.
Generally, what has been your duties in the role of a building manager?
Top of the list of my duties as a building manager is occupant safety.
Ensuring that the building remains in a clean and safe at all times is one of my prime duties.
Moreover, my job is to make sure that hazardous conditions do not transpire, and that emergency situations such as fire are handled in a prioritized manner.
What is the one skill that you feel is absolutely necessary to work as a building manager?
Leadership skills are foremost when you are working as a building manager. This is because you have to lead by example as you are overseeing the work of different people.
How do you feel about working in a role that demands so much of emotional investment?
To be perfectly honest, there isn’t a lot of emotional investment in this work. The little bit that there is, is not something that I dwell upon. One has to invest emotionally somewhat if one wants to work successfully.
Tell us about a recent accomplishment.
About 3 months ago, I replaced the building security system (in my present place of work) with a unique one, as a result, increased security by 80%.
What plans do you have for the future?
I am presently learning much in my current role. However, eventually, I would like to work as a trainer for building managers and support staff members.
