As a building superintendent, what have been your main duties?
While working as a building superintendent, I have been actively involved in managing and safeguarding assigned properties. This includes overseeing people working as part of building maintenance, keeping a check on logs, ensuring that custodial services are properly managed, handling snow removal activities, greeting tenants, ensuring that HVAC systems are properly working and that rents are properly managed.

What is your modus operandi when it comes to dealing with adversity?
In my work, there are a lot of times when adversity is quite the norm. I make sure that I never lose my cool. I try to handle issues keeping in mind that the problem has to be resolved, and not escalated.

And what skills does one require to work as a successful building superintendent?
Working as a building superintendent, one has to possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, as one has to be in constant contact with people. In addition to this, it is imperative to understand security and maintenance work and to be able to carry out oversight activities. Also, it is essential to be knowledgeable about tenant relations, and the regulations which govern residential and commercial properties.

How do feel about working in a position which has so much responsibility associated with it?
It is true that working as a building superintendent is a lot of responsibility. However, it is this sense of responsibility which makes people work well in this regard.

Have you ever handled an issue which you consider an achievement?
The building that I was overseeing had a series of thefts. None of the security cameras caught anything of interest. I put my investigation skills into play and caught on to the fact that one of the custodians was a kleptomaniac. I handled the situation with exceptional diligence, without embarrassing anyone during the process.

What are your 5-year career plans?
Within the next 5 years, I hope to be able to train enough to manage the internal affairs of a commercial building.
