Working as a kitchen expeditor can be a lot of fun. Of course, it is a lot of hard work too.

As a kitchen expeditor, your main job is to ensure that the flow of orders is properly managed.

Typically, kitchen expeditors work in restaurants and hotels. A high school diploma is usually sufficient to work as one. However, some experience is required.

Even if you have worked in another capacity in the food service industry, you can be considered an excellent choice to hire as a kitchen expeditor.

Technically, a kitchen expeditor is responsible for making sure that orders are delivered on time. Also, it is their job to create a bridge between frontend and backend staff.

• Oversee order preparation work in order to ensure timeliness and accuracy.

• Keep a check on order statuses.

• Expedite orders to that they reach customers promptly.

• Check dishes before delivery in order to ensure proper portioning and accuracy.

• Oversee garnishing tasks to ensure that standards are met.

• Call out orders to chefs and kitchen helpers.

• Provide information on food delivery time to customers or patrons.

• Monitor portion control.

• Ensure that food presentation standards are effectively met.

• Plan food order flow in an effective manner.

• Oversee the preparation of orders.

• Check dishes before they leave the kitchen.

• Take and respond to individual requests from patrons.

• Handle running orders in a timely way.

• Test food temperatures.

• Perform direction tasks such as informing runners and waiters about food preparation statuses.

• Monitor kitchen sanitation.

• Fill drinks, wrap sandwiches, and insert tray liners.

• Assist in preparing food items on assembly lines.

• Maintain awareness of menu items and recipes.

• Observe cooking times, and provide chefs with information on delivery timelines.
