Accountants are finance professionals who ensure that a company’s financial systems are kept in check at all times. They perform many duties associated with payrolls, finances, petty cash, profits, expenditures and even sales. They also conduct audits on a regular basis to ensure that no discrepancies occur and to fix any differences that do arise.

While most people find accounting dry, it is quite fascinating. People who have accounting acumen will agree as there is so much to do and so much to manage at the position of an accountant. Accountants prepare financial reports that are essential to maintaining the company’s profits and losses. Some of the statements that accountants manage include profit and loss accounts, ledgers, and balance sheets. Since accountants know a company’s financial standing more than the owner, they usually act as advisories for decision making regarding investment.

Accountants also compute taxes that a company owes to the government and manage payrolls as well. As far as salaries are concerned, accountants are expected to maintain periodic pay calculations concerning days worked, the time took off and tax collected. They perform a lot of data entry duties as they need to assign appropriate entries to the accounts that they are managing.

Accountants also manage budgets and are required to prepare reports that portray budgeted costs as opposed to actual costs. Their work is never finished as when they are not performing regular work duties; they perform auditing services to ensure that all accounts are managed appropriately and that there are no missing entries. They also advise employees of their rights as far as health care benefits and tax management is concerned and also manages cash and cheque transactions.

On a more profound level, accountants forecast finances and manage risk analysis along with undertaking financial administration. They are also expected to control income and expenditure to conform to budgetary requirements and also ensure compliance with the state’s tax legislation.
