What made you decide that you wanted to work as a service writer?
I began my career as a car detailer five years ago. During that time, there were many instances where I had to handle service coordination since the company where I worked was short of people.
One thing led to another, and I realized that I was competent in this work. I trained for the role, and have now worked in it for three years.
What skills does one need in order to work as a service writer?
Working as a service writer requires a lot of skills. The most important is the ability to listen intently. Since you have to find out what type of vehicle service customers are looking for, it is imperative to be able to gauge what they want.
Additionally, one has to be highly organized and possess the knowledge of scheduling appointments in a proper way. Also, the ability to follow up with different cases is important.
In your opinion, what is the hardest part of working as a service writer?
I would probably not point out just one area. Working as a service writer means that you are on your feet regularly, which requires consummate skills in many areas. There are many challenges that one has to see in the eye.
What is one duty that you feel is most important in this role?
I believe that the entire work of a service writer is important. But if I am to pick one, I would say that it is ensuring that the right diagnosis is made.
How do you feel about working on your feet at all times?
To be honest, I don’t mind working on my feet. It gives me great satisfaction to know that I am doing something. Working on one’s feet is all part of the game.
Where is this career leading you?
At the moment, I am not thinking too far into the future. Eventually, I would like to own similar business.
