Domestic Worker Resignation Letter Sample

Updated on: June 17, 2020

It is in everyone’s best interest for you to write a resignation letter when you are thinking of leaving a job. Your employer deserves to be given notice of your intention to leave – it is his / her right. And you need to stay in his / her favor so that your transition out of the job is easy.

This is especially true in the case of a domestic worker, who works closely with an employer. If you have been working as one, it is your duty to provide notice of your intention to leave so that your employer can look for someone else.

In such a case, your resignation letter will be short and sweet, and maybe a little personal as well. Since you have been working in someone’s house, it is understood that you will be considered someone that they can trust.

Explain why you are leaving and state how long your notice period will be.

Make sure that you tell the truth, as you will need to bank on truthfulness if you expect to be issued a reference letter which will help you with a future position.

Dear Mr. Braganza:

It is a heart-wrenching time for me as I write this letter to provide you with a 30 day notice of my intention to resign from the post of a domestic worker. After a lot of deliberation and thought, I realized that I have no choice but to ask you to release me.

As you are aware, my daughter suffers from a rare chronic illness and the only natural cure is legal in just 7 states, Utah not being one of them. At this point in time, I have no choice but to move to New York to give her the only chance that she will have at getting better. At the end of next month (September 30 to be exact), I have made arrangement to move to Brooklyn, NY, which is why I am writing to you now.

I am positive that you will understand my predicament and provide me with a reference letter as soon as possible so that I may secure a position in Brooklyn, when it is physically possible for me to do so.

Thank you for giving me the chance of being part of your family as I have never felt otherwise. I hope that you find someone to help you with housework soon – I may be able to recommend someone as well.
