An eviction paralegal is a legal assistant who provides legal support to organizations or firms that specialize in handling cases related to property and real estate.

An individual working at this position is required to support one or more attorneys in managing their cases of eviction, by ensuring that all paperwork and logistics are ready.

The work can be simple, or complicated, depending on the type of case one is handling. The basic work of an eviction paralegal is to draft show-cause notices and stipulations, prepare attorneys for show cause hearings, and follow up on assigned cases.

Eviction Paralegal Duties & Responsibilities

• Go through case files to determine the details regarding property/tenant eviction issues.
• Obtain information and documentation regarding timely completion of eviction processes.
• Coordinate with brokers to determine and verify occupancy information, required to complete paperwork.
• Draft show-cause hearing documents, and prepare stipulations, and affidavits, for internal and external signatures.
• Correspond with borrowers, tenants, brokers, and clients, through various systems, such as VendorScape and LPS.
• Draft personal property notices, and follow up with local counsels regarding hearings and trials.
• Handle repurchase matters as instructed, ensuring that proper paperwork and logistics are managed.
• Prepare affidavits and other documents, and gather and analyze research data such as statutes and legal articles.
• Prepare for trials by organizing exhibits, and file pleadings with court clerks, in an accurate and timely manner.
• Handle screening, intake, provision of technical, and investigative support, and provide legal advice as required.
• Handle court submissions, perform billing functions, and handle record keeping activities.

Qualifications

To work as an eviction paralegal, you have to possess a degree in law, with some exposure or experience to property management, in a legal sense.

In addition, one has to possess exceptional skills in processing files, communicating with people from different backgrounds, and have it in her or him to maintain records, and prepare reports in an accurate fashion.

Moreover, eviction paralegals need to be exceptionally talented in resolving issues quickly, with a sense of urgency, along with an inherent ability to interview clients, and record derived information.

Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to effectively and timely follow up on cases is also an ability that is looked for in a person being considered for an eviction paralegal position.
