Even if you are writing a cover letter for an entry level position, do not underestimate what it can do for your candidature. An entry level position may not seem like such a big deal but it is. Here is where you make a solid first impression – employers see your cover letter and decide whether you are what they want in an employee or not. Well written cover letters create good impressions and employers are more likely to read the accompanying resumes.
There is no difference in the format of an entry level cover and one that is written for an experienced position. Just like regular cover letters, the first paragraph should identify the specific job posting that you are replying to. The second one should flesh out how you are such a good fit for the company. You will need to analyze the skills that the company requires and project a strong interest in the position that is being offered. And that is how you will be perceived as a candidate who is a “cut above the others”.
