It is the uniqueness of a cover letter that manages to impress a hiring manager, forcing him to take your application to the next level.
If your cover letter says the same things as those that the hiring manager has read before, there is very little chance of it going further than the trash bin. Look at this way – hiring managers need something new to sink their teeth into, and an age-old formula of writing a cover letter is no good to them.
Going through older cover letters, see where you need to make amendments. You can also rewrite your cover letter from scratch, giving it a better shape. It all depends on how you want to go about it, but the end result should be an impressive piece of writing.
