Have you ever found yourself gazing longingly at a blank Word document and wishing that words would appear by magic? Writers’ block is common even with people who have had a lot of writing experience – for those who do not really like the idea of writing, especially a cover letter, putting words on a paper is a killer! However, if you have to write one, well, you have to write one!
Cover letter writing is a complete turn-off for many of us. Even if we love writing, cover letter writing is hardly our choice of good writing material! Unfortunately, we have to write a cover letter if we want to obtain a job. So what does one do? Well, one writes a cover letter! How? By following some basic rules that make cover letter writing easy and fun.
Firstly, it is important to determine the reason behind writing a cover letter. The reason is not simply to get a job. The reason is to provide a prospective employer with solid proof that you are the right person for the job. And you can do this by meshing out your most desirable attributes – skills, qualifications and accomplishments are the basic ingredients of a good cover letter. And here is how you can use these to cook up the perfect cover letter:

Dear Mr. Ren:
As a recent high school graduate with 32 credits in shop class, I believe that I am ready for a pipefitter apprenticeship at Tech USA.
Shop class at Stafford High School runs on quite a vast curriculum and places special focus on journey level experience. I have been taught to read isometric drawings of piping systems and can also draw ISO’s of field-run piping, along with fabricating from set designs. I have applied for the NCCR certification and will be able to acquire it by the end of March as well.
I am confident that my ability to lay out, fabricate and assemble carbon and stainless steel piping will be of great use to you, as you will not need to spend too much time, money or effort in training me. Particularly, I am proficient in the use of cutting torches, plasma arc and cutting machines with some exposure to operating rigid power threading equipment.
I would love to meet with you to provide you with a more comprehensive view of my abilities. Thank you for your time and consideration.
