1. Tell me a little about yourself.

I have worked as a handyman for 5 years. I wanted to take this up as a career because I feel that I work best with my hands. Likewise, I have performed a huge variety of work processes, and I am quite good at what I do.

2. What duties have you performed in this role?

As a handyman, I have performed many duties, such as painting and filling tasks, and repairing machinery and equipment. In addition to this, I have been busy detecting the need for major maintenance work and identifying issues with mechanical failures and breakdowns. Moreover, I have handled the cleanliness of outdoor spaces and managed sprinkler systems as well.

3. What skills do you bring to the table?

I am a physically dexterous man, who is able to handle a wide variety of work processes. Specifically, I am well-versed in cleaning facilities by sweeping and dusting, and performing maintenance and light repairs. Also, I am competent in undertaking installation and carpentry work and can effectively repair equipment and machines.

4. What do you like the most about this work?

I love the fact that every day is a new one. No two days are the same when you are working as a handyman. And this is highly motivating as one does not get bored.

5. What do you dislike about this work?

I do not dislike anything about this work. However, sometimes a job can tire me out despite my physical strength. And that is not a great feeling.

Conflict is not something that I dwell on in most cases. I am a problem-solver, which is why I like to resolve issues as soon as they arise.

I love working in a team environment. However, sometimes one has to work solo, and that is fine by me as well.

I feel that my greatest strength is my ability to learn anything. I am an eager individual, who can learn quickly, and apply my skills immediately.

10. What is your greatest weakness?

Perhaps my greatest weakness is my inability to stop when I am ahead. I am a perfectionist, and it takes me a bit long time to deem a project complete.

11. Describe your perfect job environment.

A place where everyone helps each other, and I get to learn and teach would be the perfect work environment.

12. How good are you at training others?

I have been told that I am an excellent teacher. Presently, I am responsible for training 10 apprentices in performing odd jobs, such as painting, carpentry, and equipment fixing.

13. Why do you want to leave your current job?

I am not working with any particular organization at the moment. I am a freelancer. Now, I feel that I need to be attached to a company where I can grow and learn, and contribute as much if not more.

14. Why are you interested in our company particularly?

I am interested in your company because I see that there are great opportunities to perform highly challenging work here. I want to be associated with the best, which made me apply to your organization.

15. Would you be willing to work nights and weekends?

I don’t mind working nights, and weekends if they are on rotating shifts.

16. What is your greatest achievement?

While I have more than one achievement to my name, I feel that my greatest achievement is the fact that I finished an entire carpentry project for a newly-built house, when the actual carpenter fell ill and could not work.

17. Are you willing to travel?

I would not mind traveling if my work requires it.

The requirements that you have outlined in your advertisement for a handyman position align extremely well with what I have to offer. I feel that I am the right person due to this, and also because of my inherent and learned skills in many areas.

19. Describe a time when you disagreed with your supervisor.

I was once working on a concrete project when I noticed a design fault in the beam that could have been fatal for residents. I pointed it out, but my supervisor told me to mind my own business. Surely, 5 days after construction ended, the beam fell. Thankfully, no one had moved in yet.

20. If we are to hire you, when can you join us?

I can join you immediately as I am not committed anywhere else at the moment.

21. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years, professionally speaking?

I am a hard-working individual, which is why I have the next 5 years set in my head. I want to work as a foreman in the construction arena, probably well before the 5 years are up.
