One does get wary of the various pieces of cover letter writing advice that one gets on the web. Cover letter writing is no rocket science. All you have to do is demonstrate a fit between your background and an advertised position. A cover letter that singles you out as a particularly promising employee, is one that wins hands down. Typically, cover letters reveal something about the quality of an employee’s mind, a fact that is sacred to employers who are looking for a “no-trouble-immediately-contributory” employee.
Always remember that a cover letter is not simply a job application. It goes way beyond being that. It lays out your agenda and your qualifications, making it obvious that no one can be better than you. A cover letter is also considered a writing sample – believe it or not, your communication skills are of great importance to employers who do not want to hire people who will be tongue-tied or have a constant writer’s block!
But sounding arrogant or over confident is a no go in cover letters. By all means, boast your qualifications but do not make them seem unbelievable. Never allow careless errors to creep into your cover letter and you can say hello to that cushy desk job that you always wanted!
Here is a sample to help you write your own cover letter:

Dear Mr. Taylor:
It has been a while since I have seen failure in the eye but even in the event of one, I always have a backup plan! And this is perhaps the sole reason for me staying afloat in the advertising arena for such a long time – 12 years to be precise! Orchestrating discussions with clients to determine their advertising needs and meeting those requirements exactly as they want, is my forte.
In the previous decade, I have never had a dissatisfied client which in itself is a great accomplishment. Additionally, I have successfully increased The Dew Market’s share in the industry by a whopping 52%, by aggressively creating and implementing core advertising plans to intensify its presence in the market. Also to my name are 52 training sessions that I designed and delivered to newly-hired advertising executives between the years 2008 and 2015.
I am excited to work as part of DEX Media as I am quite sure of my success in creating new clientele, meeting the advertising needs of existing ones and organizing workflow to guarantee prompt completion of projects within provided deadlines.
Because my skills are best explained in person, I welcome the opportunity to meet with you personally and provide you with a wider overview of my capabilities. I will call next week to see when we might be able to arrange a meeting. Until then, I can be contacted at (000) 777-3232.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
