A convention worker’s role falls under the broader category of event planners. He or she is expected to plan and organize conventions and other such events.

On the surface, it seems as if the work involves setting up and tearing down events, but there is a lot more than it includes.

For instance, a convention worker will need to contact customers in order to determine their specific requirements.

In order to be considered eligible to work as a convention worker, you have to possess a high school diploma or a GED equivalent.

Depending on what time of work you are entrusted with, you may need prior experience as well. Even though many convention workers are expected to provide physical help on the venue, some of them are also involved in the planning part of the work.

And this is why they need to possess knowledge of venues, locations, and transportation logistics.

• Look through work orders to determine the type of convention that needs to be planned.

• Meet with clients in order to figure out their specific requirements.

• Advise of convention venues and other logistics such as transportation.

• Create budgets for each assigned convention and have them approved by clients.

• Inspect venues in order to determine their suitability for the convention.

• Set up and breakdown events according to provided instructions.

• Ensure that all logistics, for example, food, entertainment, and security are handled properly.

• Monitor event activities in order to ensure the satisfaction of clients and attendees.

• Oversee security avenues, such as CCTV and alarms to ensure proper functionality.

• Observe crowds while informing security personnel of possible suspicious activities.

• Assist planners in handling the specifics of convention planning.

• Provide clients with bills and invoices, and process payments.

• Oversee the cleanliness and maintenance of premises before and after each event.

• Monitor sanitization and maintenance of assigned stations.

• Conduct post-event evaluations to determine how future events can be improved.

• Create and maintain records of activities performed at conventions.

• Arrange audio-visual equipment and displays.

• Hired and train volunteers and interns.

• Plan and organize programs and agendas.

• Obtain permits from agencies such as fire and health departments for each event.

• Assisted in the promotion and marketing of conventions through channels such as newspapers and social media.
