As a social studies teacher in a middle school capacity, I have been actively working with school management to create and develop social studies curriculum, create and implement lesson plans, work on social studies projects, provide students with information on concepts, assist students in understanding difficult concepts, both in the group and individual capacities, and handle assessments and evaluations.
2. In your opinion, what skills does one need to work as a middle school social studies teacher?
Working as a middle school teacher in any capacity is challenging. First of all, it is imperative that one possesses the subject knowledge to a vast degree. In addition to this, one needs to be exceptionally well-versed in creating and implementing lesson plans, according to the strengths and limitations of individual students. The ability to assess and evaluate students, and provide extra help where needed is also the top priority.
3. As far as classroom behavior is concerned, what is your take on it?
I am a stickler for perfection when it comes to behavior. I make sure that my lessons are fun and engaging, but I also keep a tight hold on discipline.
4. What is the one thing that you did which you are exceptionally proud of?
Last year, I led a project-based learning event, which led to increased student interest in learning concepts such as living things, the water cycle, and citizenship. That improved their grades as well. And I am quite proud of the fact that I thought of teaching them in a novel manner.
5. What do you find most challenging about the work of a teacher?
Teaching, on the whole, is a challenging job, as you are not only providing students with subject knowledge but are also helping them become contributing citizens.
6. So how do you overcome this challenge?
To be honest, when working as a teacher, you have to be exceptionally hands-on with all its aspects. And if you are, then you don’t need to worry about the challenges, as you can navigate them smoothly.
