For some people, appearing for a server assistant interview is great fun. For others, it is pure torture. What is the one thing that these two do differently?
Well, it is a great possibility that many people of the latter type do not prepare well for the interview process.

1. What duties have you performed in the role of a server assistant in the past?
As a server assistant, I have been actively providing support to restaurant servers and waiters, aiming to ensure customer satisfaction. This included bussing tables, relaying and following up on orders, serving orders, stocking condiments and service stations, coordinating payment services, and ensuring that any required help in the kitchen is provided on an immediate basis.
2. What are some of the main skills that you possess, which help you with this work?
I am an extremely aware individual – this makes it easy for me to see and gauge situations around me and provide customers with the best that I can manage. I am physically dexterous and can work on my feet for long periods of time. Also, I possess deep knowledge of the hospitality industry, especially how it relates to restaurant services.
3. What did you do before you picked up work as a server assistant?
Before I obtained this job, I was working as a kitchen hand, where I learned most of what there is to learn about restaurant services.
4. How do you handle irate patrons?
While I usually work in the background – that’s what server assistants do – if there is a potentially explosive situation at hand, I make sure that I keep my calm. Listening to the patron’s problems and attempting to understand why he or she is upset helps me in determining how to help the situation. Mostly, a manager does take over handling irate patrons.
5. If you were hired as a server assistant at our restaurant, what is the one value that you will bring?
I believe that with the amount of experience that I have, I will be able to contribute immensely to the streamlining of food services at your restaurant.
6. Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
In the next five years, I hope to be working as a lead waiter in your company.
