Objectives stand at the top of a resume for a reason – they are critical to the success of the document. A resume hosting no objective is usually considered a failure. Many people opt not to place an objective in their resumes, erroneously believing that it has little or no purpose. In actuality, an objective is used for a particular reason – to give the resume a direction.

Beginning a resume with information of your skills or education or anything else is considered abrupt. Providing an introduction is important. Introducing yourself as a possible candidate for a job is not difficult if you use the objective in an appropriate manner. The resume objective gives you plenty of leeway to create an aura around you that a hiring manager just cannot refuse. While it is not recommended to stretch your cover letter beyond a few sentences, it is alright to provide a little detail to help your case along. But remember that any information that you place in your objective needs to ring true in the rest of the resume as well. For instance, if you are saying that you are great at communicating with people, make sure that the skills and accomplishments sections of your resume highlight this fact in detail as well.
