1. What made you decide to take up work as a paraeducator?
It all started with a voluntary position that I held in a similar capacity. During that time, I realized that I had a great talent in working with children with special needs. They responded well to me, and I made great progress with them. I took up training in this area, and have been working as a paraeducator ever since.
2. What skills do you possess which make you an excellent person to hire?
My best skill is my ability to reach out to students. Establishing common grounds, and ensuring that their needs are determined is a great skill of mine.
Also, I am well-versed in assisting lead teachers in creating lesson plans, and can effectively chalk out resources and materials. Moreover, I am qualified to handle behavioral issues and interventions as required.
3. In your opinion, what is the most important part of working as a paraeducator?
To be honest, working as a paraeducator is important on the whole. But if I am required to pick one are, it will be to connect with all your students.
4. How do you handle the emotional end of working in this role?
I must admit that it was emotionally draining working as a paraeducator when I first began working in this capacity. However, with the passage of time, I managed to control my emotions and focused on students more than myself.
5. What is the one thing that you wish you could change about your present workplace?
My present workplace is perfect in every conceivable sense. I would want them to add a provision for adults with special needs though.
6. What are your 5-year plans?
I would eventually want to work in a lead role – as a special education teacher.
