An interview is not designed to be negative. In fact, it aims to determine what an applicant’s specific skills are, and to gauge how much truth there is in his or her job application documents.

What was your primary interest in perusing a career as an industrial designer?
As a high school student, I had often wondered how products were designed, and the motivation behind it, when scanning shelves during shopping sprees for different products and equipment. This wonder developed into something serious, and that’s when I decided to peruse a career in industrial designing.

What were your main duties in the role of an industrial designer in your past position?
As an industrial designer, I have been actively involved with clients to determine their specific product design requirements, creating models for them to look through, providing suggestions for alternative designs, modifying existing designs, and testing designs to ensure their functionality and safety.

What skills do you think one requires to work as an industrial designer?
Working as an industrial designer requires an amalgamation of skills and abilities. You have to be hands-on in creating product designs precisely as clients want them, and it is imperative to possess knowledge of using software and tools to handle designing activities. Moreover, exceptional communication skills are an absolute must, as is the ability to take the pressure and manage deadlines.

What is the one thing that you find confusing about this work?
I find my work to be challenging but not difficult. I enjoy everything about it, even when the going gets tough.

How do you handle the pressure of deadlines?
I am an exceptionally well-organized individual, who make a sure that priorities are correctly set. And this makes it easy for me to manage the pressure of deadlines.

What are your 10-year career goals?
Within the next ten years, I want to have trained enough in industrial design that I can head my own production company.
