Dental offices have always fascinated me, especially since I eventually want to make a career in this capacity. The fact that I am an organized individual, who has a great ability to handle the administrative and clerical aspects of a busy dental office, made it easier for me to decide that this is what I want to do.
What duties have you performed in the role of a dental office assistant?
As a dental office assistant, I have been busy handling the front desk, providing information to patients regarding the facility and its services, supervising scheduling and follow-up work, ensuring that patient inflow was properly managed, creating and maintaining records of patients and treatments, overseeing dental and office supplies and equipment inventory, and ensuring that chairside assistance was provided when required.
What skills are necessary to work as a dental office assistant in your opinion?
I believe that working in a dental office assistant position requires a lot from an individual. Exceptional organizational skills, the ability to handle large patient inflow, knowledge of creating and maintaining records, comprehension of setting up and calibrating dental equipment, and the ability to document dental care services are all part of the skills set that a dental office assistant must possess.
What do you find the most difficult about working in a dental office assistant capacity?
I don’t find the work difficult at all. Of course, there are times when one is presented with an unprecedented situation such as an irate patient, or technology malfunction. I take these things in stride and focus on resolving them, rather than dwelling on the problem.
What do you find most interesting about working in a dental office assistant capacity?
There are two things that fascinate me. I love working in an environment where I get to meet different people every day. And then I get to learn a lot about dental work, which is where I see my future.
And what exactly are your plans?
I want to work as a dental assistant soon, a future that I am already working towards by keeping my ears and eyes open, and enrolling in a dental assistant training program.
