Cover letters provide you with a lot of leeways to write whatever you want to. But they too have some rules that need to be followed.
While you can pour your heart out in a cover letter, it is important to pour it out in a professional manner. Writing a cover letter is not an issue until the content goes wrong. Do not let that happen.
Applying in any capacity will require you to write a cover letter which elicits all the information that you can edict about your capabilities. Not making good use of this document means specific rejection. The main reason applicants write cover letters is that they want to get ahead in the game.

I am not applying for the position of a school head custodian for no reason. In fact, I have many ways to prove that I am indeed the best person to hire for the job. If you look through the enclosed resume, you too will agree that I am a strong candidate to work in this position, at St. Vrain Valley District School.
Seven years of experience working in a custodial capacity, and 3 years of working in a head custodian capacity, in a school environment, have prepared me exceptionally well to contribute to your school. Making regular inspections of school buildings and grounds, intending to maintaining proper cleaning and maintenance procedures is one of my strongest points.
But, simply reviewing areas is not my niche – I can quickly determine cleaning and maintenance requirements, and then ensure that a team of custodians is led to do the needful. Ensuring that custodial undertakings do not hinder school activities is my top priority, and I make sure that the safety and well-being of students are made a priority, by erecting signboards as necessary.
