As a pharmacy cashier, I have been actively managing a wide variety of cashiering and non-cashiering activities, which include processing card and cash payments for medicines purchased by customers, assisting with order filling activities, managing stocks, and inventory, balancing cash registers, and handling bank liaison activities.
2. What skills do you believe are essential to working as a pharmacy cashier?
Knowledge of different types of medicines and their alternatives is one of the most essential skills that one needs when working as a cashier in a pharmacy. In addition to this, you have to know how to operate and balance POS systems, especially ones that are used in pharmacy environments. Exceptional customer service skills, excellent communication abilities, and a positive attitude go a long way in making a person eligible for this position.
3. In your opinion, what is the most challenging thing about working as a pharmacy cashier?
Working as a cashier in a pharmacy setting can be a walk in the park or the most challenging thing that you have ever done. I am afraid that I cannot pinpoint one area that is the most difficult. Each day is a different one when working in this position, and one has to be open to all challenges that are presented at any time.
4. What is the most challenging thing that you have had to handle while working as a pharmacy cashier?
There was a time when I was unable to balance the cash register assigned to me, as an entry of $99 could not be found. It took me many hours to figure out that a cashier intern had accidentally deleted the entry from the system, making it appear as if the order was short of that much money. It was quite an experience.
5. How do you make sure that discrepancies do not arise in your cash drawers?
I have a great checks and balances system that I follow, which makes sure that discrepancies do not arise, and if they do, I am provided with an alert immediately.
6. Where do you want your career to take you from here?
Soon, I would like to be working in a capacity where I am more involved in pharmacy work. I am hoping to take up training to work as a pharmacy technician soon.
