Possessing experience is one thing – putting it on paper is another! Writing a cover letter to exhibit your specific experience in a certain field is an art. The good news is that cover letters are not entirely about experience. Mostly, employers want to see how qualified you are for a job when they pick up your cover letter. The experience part, they can see on your resume as well!
However, a cover letter is not entirely about skills. While qualifications and skills should be the central focus of a cover letter, a little bit of accomplishments and experience should be included as well. Why? Because it is almost impossible to convince a hiring manager that you are the right person for the job, unless you tell them that you acquired experience through your skills. One stone, two birds!
So now that we have established that we need to incorporate experience, skills and accomplishments in a cover letter, let’s discuss where they are placed within it. More good news. There is no defined pattern for placement, so you can basically play around with the information as you please! Let’s now move on to a sample cover letter to show you how all this is done:

Dear Mr. Ford:
The buying process is perhaps the most intriguing in retail and merchandising environments, and it is this fascination with the buying system that has brought me this far in my career. As an energetic individual who possess exceptional strategic and analytic capabilities, I am positive that I will be a great contributor to Havana Jeans in the role of an Assistant Buyer.
With thorough understanding of the buying world, including extensive liaison with vendors and suppliers, I can now easily identify and recommend new products and business opportunities. The fact that I can correspond effectively with all related functional areas will prove to be beneficial when summarizing and communicating merchandising information across different platforms. Also, I have had extensive exposure to developing product assortments, which makes me an excellent choice to work in an arena that requires accuracy in planning and placing orders.
If you would like to delve deep into my qualifications to be considered for an assistant buyer position at Havana Jeans, I suggest we meet in person. I will contact you soon. If you need to reach me in the meantime, I can be contacted at (000) 210-4685.
