What made you decide that you wanted to work as an academic advisor?
To be perfectly candid, the university that I graduated from had a shortage of academic advisors, leaving most students in the lurch. Since education is critical to me, I decided to do my bit by training as an academic advisor and contributing to this role.
What skills do you possess which make you an excellent person to hire as an academic advisor?
I am excellent at determining students’ strengths and weaknesses. This ability makes it easy for me to decide how to handle program and course advisement. Also, I possess knowledge of courses and programs that best suit careers of the future. Also, I am well-versed in assisting students in the development of educational plans such as program choices, and educational goals clarification.
What is the hardest part of working as an academic advisor?
To be perfectly honest, the whole work is quite challenging. However, it is quite a feat to work with students who have no idea about what they intend to do in the future. But that is where my best skills are tested.
How do you feel about working in a position where you have to meet so many people in a day?
I enjoy my work thoroughly, mainly because I get to meet people from different backgrounds every single day. Makes it worth my while.
Would you instead work in a school or a college capacity? Give reasons for your answer.
I believe that working in either capacity has its challenges. I wouldn’t mind working in either, as I feel that both offer an opportunity to grow and learn.
What are your 5-year plans?
I intend to head the academics department of a university soon. But I am still learning the ropes, and will gradually get there.
