8 Social Service Worker Interview Questions and Answers

Interview process to hire a social service worker includes questions to check the applicant’s knowledge of the work, and what they have written in their job application documents.

As an applicant for Social Service Worker position, you have to show that you are the right person to hire because you know how to serve communities affected by issues such as neglect, child abuse, domestic violence, and mental health.

The interviewer will want to know what your personality is, and if you will be able to handle issues related to children and adults. Your crisis intervention skills and the ability to develop plans will also be tested.

1. Tell me a little bit about yourself.

I am a seasoned social worker, with 6+ years of experience in hand. I chose this field because I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. It is my aspiration to work towards the betterment of communities in order to help them survive and thrive in their environments.

2. What duties have you performed in the role of a social service worker?

I have performed many duties in this regard, including identifying people who need help, assessing clients’ needs and situations, and developing plans to improve clients’ wellbeing. In addition, I have been busy developing plans to meet the individual requirements of each client, and have been involved in responding to crisis situations.

3. In your opinion, what drives results in this job?

I feel that the ability to understand clients’ situations is what drives results in this job.

4. What is your greatest strength?

My main strength is my ability to understand people’s predicaments, and then provide them with correlating assistance.

5. What is your greatest weakness?

I sometimes feel that I am more empathetic than I should be. In the past, this has made it difficult for me to handle service planning. However, I am more than halfway successful in ensuring that I remain detached.

6. What is one skill that you depend highly on?

My ability to effectively reach out to people suffering from different issues and problems is a skill that I rely on quite highly.

7. What are your plans for the next 5 years?

I intend to contribute as much as I can in a social service capacity. Eventually, I want to work with child abuse and domestic violence victims.

8. Do you have any questions for me?

I would like to know more about the type of cases you get, and how you handle them, especially with reference to government services.
