1. What, in your opinion, is a Community Support Worker’s role?

In my opinion, a community support worker is required to build rapport with clients, assess their needs, develop intervention plans and help implement the same.

As I am a compassionate person, working as a community support worker fulfills my intrinsic goals.

3. Share a challenging experience on the job and how you handled it?

I was on a visit and my client had an epilepsy attack. Thanks to my training in nursing I was able to tend to him till the ambulance arrived.

4. Tell me your 3 core strengths as a community support worker?

Communication, Interpersonal, and documentation skills

5. How do you assess a client’s needs?

I assess the client’s needs based on the following five criteria: their personality, their disability, their priorities, availability of caretakers, and client preferences.

6. How do you ensure your growth and development in this field of work?

By staying in touch with modern research and by studying and discussing the cases with the panel

7. Share any volunteer social work that you have done?

I have been part of many fundraisers and information awareness campaigns by various NGOs and I also volunteer at the food shelter when I get time.

8. Share one experience where you brought a positive change at your previous workplace?

During the COVID pandemic, I devised a virtual setup at the clinic that enabled us to hold face-to-face video calls with the clients. This practice enabled us to stay in contact with the clients during difficult times.

My skills in crisis intervention, case management, and functional knowledge of more than three languages will definitely add value to your organization.

I develop a complete case monitoring and follow-up schedule based on the client’s needs and condition and I make sure the case is properly followed up according to plan.

Last year I was assigned a team job where we had to visit slums and conduct surveys to identify populations at risk and develop mass intervention programs for the population.

Two years back a colleague was in an accident and was handicapped for a few days. I volunteered to visit his clients and set up virtual calls so that my colleague could interact with them.

I have had the chance of working with 12 cases of learning disabilities. I worked with the shadow teacher to help them blend in mainstream schools.

I worked with a client for 5 years; he was elderly and physically handicapped. He was doing very well but suddenly he passed away due to a stroke. It was the first death I had seen so closely. I joined a short bereavement group to overcome the stress.

20. How do you handle a client who refuses to communicate?

I help such clients in communicating. I observe them and try to state their needs.

21. What information do you need before preparing a case management plan?

Areas they need help with, previous case history, demographics, family background, medical history, and the client’s personal preferences regarding care.

I did a nursing short course during the summer of my college degree that has equipped me with basic healthcare skills.

I’m a very committed worker so definitely if the position requires relocating, I will do so.

By smartly planning my visits to one locality in one day to save time and keeping high-risk cases on priority.

Difficult people are only difficult if we fail to understand them. I handle such people with empathy and effective communication skills.

The biggest challenge for a community support worker is to help a client who refuses to be helped.

During initial rapport building I communicate and discuss boundaries with the client then we reach an agreement regarding the same.

28. Share an incident when you had a conflict with a colleague?

I once disagreed with a colleague regarding the best way to handle a difficult case of a schizophrenic patient. We resolved the issue by calmly discussing the pros and cons of both plans.

While panning I ensure that my client stays safe, healthy, and happy.
