CAD Technician Job Description for Resume

Updated on: June 29, 2022
Position Overview

CAD or computer-aided design is the process of drafting blueprints using technology; people who perform this job are called CAD technicians.

Mainly, CAD technicians work in the construction industry. Most of their work involves creating technical drawings of buildings that help construction personnel in handling their specific duties.

Taking the benefit of computers, CAD technicians can prepare and edit schemata in a prompt manner which creates the baseline for efficient production processes.

Even though CAD technicians depend highly on the latest technology to help them create relevant blueprints, they still need to maintain knowledge of traditional drafting techniques that involve pen and paper.

That is because the drafting of a project usually starts in a technician’s head and is then transformed onto paper before being electronically prepared.

Many colleges in the USA offer associate’s degree programs in computer-aided technology; some vocational institutes also offer shorter courses for people who just want to brush up their skills.

These courses are generally for people who have backgrounds in engineering, mathematics, or architecture.
