Not only are they responsible for making sure that you get these services when you subscribe to them, but they also make sure that your services are uninterrupted and that any issues or breakdowns are managed immediately.

The first attribute that you will need to work as a cable technician is physical dexterity since you will be crouching in small places and climbing poles and roofs to do your job.

Your customer service skills will need to be perfect as well since you will be in touch with customers all day.

And you will need an analytic mind so that you can determine problems and resolve them immediately.

Education & Experience

Working as a cable technician requires that you possess a high school diploma or a GED at the very least.

Before you are hired as an independent cable technician, you will need to go through an apprenticeship program to learn the ropes.

• Study customers’ orders and plan cable network installations accordingly.

• Go through manuals and specifications particularly to gauge layouts and ensure that all layout activities are managed accordingly.

• Establish voice and data networks by performing running, pulling, terminating, and splicing cables according to set cabling standards and specifications.

• Verify cable services by testing circuits and equipment and ensuring that any non-conformities or problems are immediately addressed.

• Document all work processes in logbooks by following standardized documentation processes and protocols.

• Troubleshoot problems with existing cabling networks by interviewing clients to determine issues and performing physical inspections of equipment.

• Create and maintain effective relationships with suppliers to ensure timely and accurate procurement of supplies and equipment.

• Install cable pathways, raceways, and attachments such as equipment racks, patch panels, and 110 and 60 blocks.

• Perform terminating, labeling, and connectivity testing activities by ensuring that they meet industry standards.

• Inspect sites to determine material requirements and communicate them to procurement managers or vendors.

• Respond to requests for corrective, preventative, and general maintenance on cabling systems and components.

• Set up and monitor testing of new and existing components and systems to ensure delivery of exceptional quality services.
