1. What, in your opinion, are the main duties of a Lawn Care Technician?
In my opinion, the key responsibilities of a lawn care technician are ground maintenance, aerating, pruning, trimming, weeding, fertilizing, and litter removal.
2. Which hand tools are you familiar with?
I’m well versed in the usage of shovels, rakes, saws, axes, and trimmers.
3. How do you prune a garden?
I prune by cutting out damaged wood pieces, and crossing branches and stems growing close to each other.
4. Have you ever worked in snowy areas? What are the challenges?
Yes, the biggest challenge is to retain the plantation and keep the walkways slip-free. A small amount of snow is cleared by shovels; if the snow is heavy then we have to use snow blowers. Snowy walkways need to be salted to keep them slip-free.
5. How do you deal with ant nests in the soil?
Ant nests usually go away with boric acid. In severe cases, I use nematodes as required to rid-off ant nests. Planting insect-repelling plants like Lavender and Marigold also helps.
6. Can you tell us about an occasion when you disagreed with a colleague and how you resolved it?
Once I had a disagreement with a coworker regarding a mix of pesticides and their application. We resolved the conflict through dialogue in which each of us presented facts. Eventually, we reached a mutually agreeable solution.
7. How do you meet tight deadlines as a lawn care technician?
I always keep a calendar diary for each section of the lawn and I prioritize all tasks. I also mark the days/ weeks of fertilization and pruning etc. This helps me stay organized and meet deadlines efficiently.
8. What skills qualify you as a lawn care technician?
I have good physical stamina and in-depth knowledge of plant sowing, maintenance, pruning, and fertilization. I keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology applicable to gardening and landscaping.
9. Share an achievement as a lawn care technician from your previous workplace?
When I joined my last workplace, the plantation had molds and fairy rings as well as red rust patches. I utilized various techniques and replaced topsoil at certain spots to restore the plantation, saving plant replacement costs.
10. What measures do you take when the lawn is at risk of drought?
In case of drought or suspected drought, I take the following measures – delay fertilizers, avoid nitrogen fertilizers, water deeply and infrequently, mow high and clear the weeds.
