Whether you are a rookie or a specialist, a hiring manager will not look at your cover letter with too much interest if he or she sees that you haven’t put in too much effort. Setting the stage is important. How you begin your cover letter decides how it is going to end up for you. The first line of your cover letter must be exceptionally bold and interesting if you intend to make the hiring manager sit up in his seat.

Gauging what the hiring manager wants to read is important. If you are the quiet type who has little or no experience in reaching out to prospective employers, you will need to get over your shyness and get the ball rolling. A hiring manager has certain needs and it is up to you to make sure that they are fulfilled to the core. The following cover letter sample does this:

As an expert in assessing clients’ medical, psychological and economic situations to determine viability of and probability of success of vocational rehabilitation programs, I believe that I will be a direct and immediate asset at Safe Horizon in the role of Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist.
