Why did you choose a career in waste management?
I love our planet, and I believe that how waste is managed plays a massive part in saving it. While working in waste management, I want to do my bit, which is why this is the career path that I chose.

As a waste manager, what has been your duties in a previous/present role?
I have worked as a waste manager for over 6 years now, and have been actively involved in a lot of duties associated with this work. This includes strategizing plans and programs to handle waste disposal, overseeing waste management schemes, supervising the transportation of waste to ensure that it takes place safely, assisting with the development, implementation, and promotion of new waste disposal schemes, formulating and controlling budgets for waste disposal, and monitoring the quality and performance of waste services.

In your opinion, what skills set does one need to work as a waste manager successfully?
First of all, it is imperative for waste managers to be exceptionally well-versed in determining waste disposal and management strategies. Along with this, is it essential to understand and research waste disposal regulations and rules, set by the government, and on a federal level. Moreover, it is important for waste managers to possess an analytic mind, with a high ability to lead teams to ensure that they perform their work properly.

What is the most challenging part of working in a waste management capacity?
The work, on the whole, is quite challenging, but I find educating the general public quite tiresome. Some people don’t understand the importance of proper waste management, and others just don’t care.

What is the one thing that keeps you gelled into this work so closely?
I am an extremely dedicated individual, who loves the work so much, that it is now a way of life. The fact that I can obtain a lot of satisfaction from this work, which is when it is well done, is what keeps me motivated.

What are your future career goals?
I would ultimately like to work in a capacity where my love for the environment is channelized for the betterment of our planet. I am working towards eventually obtaining a waste management specialist position.
