He or she is expected to oversee the management of data within an organization, ensuring its integrity and security at all times.

Where data is concerned, confidentiality is a given. As a data manager, it is your responsibility to ensure that assigned data remains safe at all times.

At times, you will be asked to retrieve data, and you must determine if the person asking for it has the authority to obtain that information, before giving it out.

Requirements

To work as a data manager, it is imperative that you possess a degree in information technology.

Previous experience in data handling is considered a plus point.

Skills and Abilities

As far as skills are concerned, it is imperative for data managers to possess advanced proficiency in working with data management software.

Additionally, he or she must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Working as a data manager requires analytic abilities and strategy building acumen.

Data Manager Job Description

• Create and implement data management policies in sync with company management.

• Formulate techniques regarding data collection, in order to ensure accuracy and legitimacy.

• Devise efficient data management systems, ensuring attention to all technical aspects.

• Develop and implement data management rules and regulations.

• Oversee staff members’ activities as they relate to the use of data and data systems.

• Monitor and evaluate information and data systems.

• Assess data system performance, and assist in making them more profound.

• Set up, configure, and test data systems in order to ensure that they work optimally.

• Write, test, and modify data management specifications.

• Develop methods for data collection, organization, and interpretation.

• Create designs aimed at resolving issues related to input, storage, and retrieval of data.

• Develop standard operating procedures for all data management tasks.

• Guide users in the use of required data and data systems.

• Maintain data management plans, and develop operating instructions for data systems.

• Troubleshoot issues with data items and systems, in order to ensure that downtime is minimized.

• Create and maintain internal data libraries.

• Assist in the training and induction of data management employees.

• Ensure that all data items maintain their accuracy, completeness, and integrity at all times.
