Before you appear for an interview for any position at Walmart, it is important to perform some research on the company and their expectations from the candidate for a specific position. This is especially important if you are being interviewed for a position in which you may have constant contact with customers. Interviewers want to know how well you know the company and its customer service policies and it is up to you to impress them with your knowledge.
The retail world is a huge platform where people can work at many positions. Most people giving interviews for positions in retail settings will be asked similar questions – some may be directed at specific job duties but most of them will be standard ones. This is because retail environments have one goal which is customer satisfaction and most duties performed in this arena are aimed at achieving this.
If you are appearing for a position at Walmart, you will be asked a standard set of questions that are particular to retail environments. Of course, your answers should be a little more than merely standard as interviewers will want to pick out candidates that have more aplomb than those who do not!

What do you know about Walmart?
Walmart was founded by Sam Walton and it is headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas. It was ranked as number one in the 2013 list of Fortune 500 and the company’s motto is “Save Money, Live Better.”
What interests you in working for Walmart?
Walmart is a retail leader in the US and working for the leader is something that will provide me with great insight into the actual retail world. Also, I believe that the ideology of Walmart (reducing inflation primarily) is something that I can relate to very well and I would like to be part of this change.
What traits you posses that will help you in becoming a successful sales professional?
I am a friendly person and get along very well with co workers and customers. In addition to being multilingual I possess excellent communication and rapport building skills. All these traits have always helped me in my retails career.
Do you have any experience in retail?
I have worked at the Macy’s for 3 years as a retail associate. I am well practiced in selling cosmetics and skin care products. I also have some experience in selling beverages and packed food items at Fred’s Mart.
How do you handle customer’s complaints?
Whenever a customer walks in with a complaint, I empathize, put myself into their shoes and think what I would do if I was in the same situation. This practice helps me in seeing the problem from the customer’s perspective and enables the problem solving process to occur in a customer oriented manner.
Is it okay to compromise on quality of work occasionally if you are time pressed?
Not at all! Walmart is committed to quality, not speed. I believe the customer would rather wait for the high quality product that is the trademark of Walmart than obtaining the required merchandise too quickly but of low quality.
What would you do if you found out that a co-worker was stealing something?
I would tell them that its wrong and would immediately report the incident to the management or supervisor.
If you were doing your job perfectly and the supervisor asked you to make some changes in the way you work, what would you do?
I believe there is no growth in stagnation. If a supervisor is asking me to change the way I work I would make that change and adapt to it as a part of my professional growth.
How do you organize and manage your daily tasks?
Being a sales associate, my main duty is customer dealing. I organize the other tasks I’m responsible for in order of priority in between attending incoming customers incase I’m not able to wind them up in the non attending duty hours.
Do you see yourself as part of Walmart 5 years from now? Why or why not?
I would eventually like to be a floor manager at Walmart, a position I believe that I can achieve within the next few years. I would want to be a functional member of the company for as long as possible as I believe that there is no better opportunity for people looking for success in retail than what Walmart offers.
How do you see yourself contributing to the success of Walmart?
I have deep knowledge of providing customer service excellence which is Walmart’s primary concern. I deeply believe in the 10 foot rule and have exceptional people skills which I intend to use to ensure recurring business from happy customers. Since I have worked with marketing and accounts departments during the formative years of my employment, I understand the importance of time management and accuracy in a retail environment both of which I can use for positive contribution to Walmart.
