Treat interviews seriously because they really are serious businesses. You cannot champion an interview without preparation. If you do not go through the type of questions that you may be asked before appearing for an interview, you are giving others a chance to prove that they are better than you – even when they aren’t.

Purchasing Coordinator Interview Questions and Answers

What type of work responsibilities have you been given in the role of a purchasing coordinator in the past?
From performing research activities to determine which vendors have the best offers, to handling inventory work, I have done it all. As a purchasing coordinator, I have been creating work orders, assisted in preparation of bidding documents, checking received items, and following up on orders.

What is the one skill that you feel is essential to work as a purchase coordinator?
I believe that the one skill that a purchase coordinator must possess is the ability to get along with people, since one has to meet so many people from different backgrounds.

As far as customer satisfaction is concerned, where does a purchase coordinator come in?
While purchase coordinators do not usually have direct contact with customers, it is important for them to be able to pick and choose the right items, so that when customers buy them from a retail setting, they get what they want.

As far as cost control is concerned, what specific duties have you performed?
Performing cost comparison and analysis, and administering cost variance analysis are areas that I have worked extensively in.

Recount a time when your role as a purchasing coordinator really made a difference to the company that you were working for?
When I first joined my present place of work, I realized that the vendor from whom the company was purchasing most of the goods, sold them at 43% higher rates than it should have been sold at. I quickly intervened, provided my manager with cost calculations of another vendor, and promptly resolved this problem.

What do you feel is the main goal of this position?
I consider contributing to the integrity of company purchases through verification and maintenance of purchasing activities as the main goal of working as a purchasing coordinator.
