Great cover letters can get the attention of even the most reluctant of readers. Introductions should be designed in a way that they grab the reader’s attention immediately and keep it there. As the “head” of your letter, the introduction has the capacity to compel a hiring authority to keep reading the letter. This quality is essential to the success of a cover letter.
As you move down, you need to make sure that your cover letter provides essential information that the employer should know about. Competencies, skills and accomplishments should all be part of the main body. Remember that you have to focus on the benefits that you intend to bring to the employer and not on simply how good you are. A brief background summary of your experience is important but it will seem more profound if you can gel it with your skills and competencies.
The conclusion – the last portion of your cover letter – expresses your appreciation and explains what happens next. There are two things that happen at this stage – either, you provide a timeline for when you will call the employer to set an interview date and time or you motivate the employer to call you before someone else does! Both provide you with the benefit of a possible interview.
