Dietary Job Description
Dietary professionals design nutrition programs according to the individual needs of the person that they catering to. These healthcare professionals advise their clients on what to eat and how often to eat in order for them to achieve a specific health goal. Some people consult dieticians because they want to lose weight; others may want to counter a health problem such as diabetes and blood pressure. With autoimmune diseases now closely linked with diets, dieticians also help their clients with choosing what to eat in order to keep their immune systems in check.
Dietary Job Requirements
Dieticians and dietary aides (people working to support dieticians in analyzing clients’ needs and assisting in the design and preparation of diet plans) are employed at a number of places including nursing homes and hospitals. Both need to possess formal education; dieticians are especially required to possess an associate degree from an accredited program approved by ADA (American Dietetic Association). Education is one factor that helps a dietician or a dietary aide perform well in his or her work, but it is not the only important factor.
