A musician might be a singer depending on the requirements of employer. In addition, s/he needs to be a good composer and instrument player or all in one.
Mostly, musicians play in bands, orchestras, choirs or even as solo singers depending on their interest and talent. Many musicians have one or two instruments of choice; they also perform many studio related activities such as music arrangement and recording and teach music.

Dear Mr. Shepherd:
The term “music is food for the soul” cannot be more accurate for a musician who is highly enthusiastic about making music into a career. As a professional musician with 7 years’ experience playing in bands and choirs and teaching music, I am positive that you will find my application worthy of consideration for a position at Holland America Entertainment.
Being an active conductor of large instrumental groups such as Symphony Orchestra and Gibbs Chamber Orchestra, I have been exposed to the various ensembles such as chamber, jazz and percussions. For the past three years, I have worked as a jazz piano teacher and have had the opportunity to teach improvisation and jazz theory to students between the ages of five and sixteen. With a special focus on aural labs and functional keyboard application, I have had considerable success in assisting students in understanding traditional music theory.
Furthermore, I enjoy playing popular songs from the 80’s, 90’s and today. I have a particular interest in playing piano and percussions and am familiar with the challenges that these instruments pose. As a result of my own rewarding experience as a musician, I am positive that I have much to add to your bottom-line.
I would enjoy the opportunity to speak about this position with you in more detail for which I will call your office next week to arrange a meeting.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
