Career Coach Interview Questions and Answers

What made you decide to work in a career coach capacity?
The college where I graduated from lacked career counseling, and it made students quite miserable when it was time to graduate and look for work. As time went by, I realized that not only I wanted colleges to provide career coaching facilities, I was quite good at it myself. One thing led to another, and I finally decided to obtain a related degree. And I have been working as a career coach ever since.

What were your primary duties while working as a career coach in a previous/present capacity?
I have been working as a career coach for over 6 years now, and have been actively advocating for students in the career and technical majors. My responsibilities while working in this position included assisting students in defining their career options, developing employment skills, and providing them with ways to navigate job-search procedures. Moreover, I have been administering and interpreting career and vocational assessment instruments, and assisting with the planning and implementation of career-related events, and information sessions.

What skills do you possess which make you an excellent person to hire as a career coach?
My most profound skill is my ability to reach out to student groups, and individual students to determine their specific, and individualized career goals. In addition to this, I am well-versed in handling targeted counseling sessions, placing a particular focus on ensuring that students meet their career goals. Also, I am a professional when it comes to using assessment instruments, and computerized career guidance systems.

On a scale of 1 to 10, ten being the highest, where do you rate yourself as a career coach?
I would give myself an eight as I have been quite successful in placing assigned students in different companies. However, the learning part never stops, and I am still learning the ropes.

What has been your most challenging workday till now?
Working as a career coach means that you face challenges on a daily basis. A recent one brought me face to face with a student who was about to graduate but had no clue what he wanted to do in life. Even though he was about to gain a technical degree, he was quite unsure of his career options. Providing him with the right information, and placing him on the right path was quite a difficult task, but I managed to get it done.

What is the one thing that you are proud of as far as your career is concerned?
I recently put together a huge student outreach program, which proved to be such a success that 95% of students applied for assessment programs.
