It may seem as if a bakery cashier does nothing but handle cash in a bakery environment, but this is not true.
A bakery cashier’s main work is to handle the till, but he or she performs other duties as well. These include dealing with customers, helping them choose bakery products, and packing purchased items.
Education
A high school diploma or a GED equivalent is usually sufficient to work as a bakery cashier. If you do not have exposure to cashiering in a bakery specifically, you will be trained on the job.
Skills & Abilities
Working as a bakery cashier requires one to know how items are baked.
In addition, you must know how to handle cash drawers, ensuring that no discrepancies are evident. Also, you will be expected to balance cash accounts and handle daily bank deposits.
As a bakery cashier, you may have to double up as a bakery attendant now and then. This will require you to possess exceptional customer service skills. Taking and responding to complaints will also be part of your work.

• Greet customers as they arrive at the bakery.
• Ensure that a bakery attendant is available to serve customers.
