No experience in accounts payable arena is a problem only if you let it become one. When you write a cover letter, hoping to acquire a position for which you have had no experience, your tone is what matters the most. If your tone radiates confidence, you will be judged as someone who knows his / her work. If not, you may come across as a washed out personality. Do not let the latter happen as you will destroy your chances of employment even before you have been given your first work opportunity!
Sounding nervous in a cover letter is the worst thing that you can do. If your writing is confident, you have a better chance of making a positive impression on the hiring manager. And that is basically what a cover letter has to do – make a lasting impression on the person who will decide your employment fate.
By starting off your cover letter in an upbeat and positive manner, you are doing yourself great favors – and to the hiring manager, by not boring him to death with dreary opening lines. Once you are done with your cover letter, read it several times to make sure that you sound enthusiastic and come across as a person who is a “go-getter”. If you don’t sound this way, rearrange your sentences to make yourself do so!

Dear Ms. Ferguson:
As a recent accounting graduate from Homewood Business School, I look forward to working as an accounts payable clerk at Interstate Companies, an organization that I have long-admired for its consistency in the market and the ability to rise, even in events of extreme economic depression.
As far as accounting skills concerns, I am particularly well-versed in handling accounts payable duties, including verifying approvals on all invoices and check requests, coding invoices, handling foreign currency and auditing expense reports. For a short summer commission at the school office, I was hired on for 4 weeks to assist with processing invoices and entering them into the accounting database, which provided me with great exposure to the world of accounting. Some examples of my passion for doing a job well are available in the enclosed references.
I will get in touch with you next week to see if a mutually convenient time can be secured so that we can meet in person. Until then, I can be reached at (888) 888-8888. Thank you for your time and consideration.
