The ability to communicate well is perhaps one of the most wanted traits by hiring managers. This is the prime reason for them wanting to read cover letters that demonstrate this ability. Cover letters are much more than simple accounts of what you have done in the past, and how you intend to contribute to the company in the future. They are also proofs of your ability to write well.
Standout cover letters are appreciated by employers who are tired of the ordinary information that most cover letters elicit. As an applicant, it is your job to make sure that you do not fall into the category of “ordinary”. You have to make your cover letter an interesting read to make sure that there is a market for it out there. Even if you are the best at what you do and have proven it in the past, you will have to do it all over again through a cover letter.
The resume is not enough. While technically, the resume does encompass it all, there is always something more that is needed. The cover letter does an exceptional job of making your professional standing strong. That is, if the cover letter itself is a strong one. Here is an example for you to follow:

Dear Mr. Darby:
Building and maintaining strong and long-lasting relationships with clients is one of my greatest strengths. As an experienced and insightful account manager, I have been diligently working towards developing long-term relationships with my clients and liaising between them and cross-functional internal teams.
My skills as an account manager can perhaps be judged from the following:
• Demonstrated ability to deliver strategic account plans for each account within the assigned portfolio.
• Qualified to identify clients’ specific requirements and create and implement plans to meet them effectively.
• Highly experienced in effectively and strategically addressing client concerns and issues in a bid to keep them satisfied, and ensure repeat business opportunities.
• Deep insight into building tools and processes to serve an increasing portion of the company’s client base.
With a strong interest in business operations and strategies, along with great enthusiasm and willingness to take on responsibility, I present myself as a strong candidate to work as an account manager at Rollins. I am positive that you will feel the same way once you have met with me in person. I will be in touch with your secretary regarding an interview time soon.
