An electrical line worker is an individual who is responsible for making sure that you get your electricity service without any hitches.
He or she is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical lines and systems, and ensuring that they keep running at optimal levels.
Electrical line workers are hired by government-backed or individually operated electrical services companies.
Education and Training Requirements
To be considered eligible to work as an electrical line worker, it is important for an individual to possess a high school diploma or a GED equivalent.
Training is usually provided on the job – if you have had some experience in working for an electrical services company, you will need minimum training and will be considered a better choice to hire than an individual who hasn’t had this opportunity.
Skills and Qualifications

• Install poles, cables, and electrical equipment related to overhead distribution and transmission systems, and perform regular maintenance on them.
• Repair underground and overhead electricity distribution systems according to standardized protocols.
• Operate and maintain a wide variety of hydraulic equipment such as diggers derricks, backhoe trenchers, and bucket trucks.
• Install, remove, and maintain cross arms, pins, and insulators, and perform maintenance work on dead or energized overhead transmissions.
• Replace transformers, install electrical services, and perform switching activities, according to specified schedules.
• Install and remove lightning arresters, fuses, cutouts, and air break switches, keeping in mind their specific codes.
• Ensure that self-safety is ensured by following all workplace safety rules and regulations.
• Minimize electrical service downtime, by ensuring that alternative arrangements are made in cases of breakdowns or outages.
• Perform line switching and sectionalizing and handle emergency repairs in an efficient manner.
• Perform inspections on lines, poles, and equipment to determine signs of damage and wear and tear.
