If only candidates could hear the silent sigh that all hiring managers let out when they pick up cover letters! All cover letters begin to merge and blur after a while.

Applicants do not know what other applicants have written in their cover letters – imagine what will happen if most candidates for one position end up writing the same (or nearly the same) type of information in their cover letters, simply because they looked through the same resources! Disaster!

It is not crime to take help from online resources, but it is one (in the employment world) to copy verbatim. Standardized cover letters never work. It is only if you put in a little bit of “yourself” in a cover letter that you can expect it to bring results. Find out what your aspirations are as far as your career is concerned, and then make sure that you write them down in your cover letter. Here is a sample that will show you how to do this:

July 14, 2017

Mr. William Andres
Human Resource Manager
Butler Community College
89 Tony Davis Road
West Green, GA 31873

Dear Mr. Andres:

I am a results-focused College Student Worker with eight years of experience in fast paced and busy environments. If you need exceptional performance and student ratio improvement, perhaps we should talk.

I was fortunate enough to be chosen as the first student worker in my present place of employment – The Spartan College. But being lucky is not all that I can boast of. I was chosen to work at this position by a committee of college administrators who found me to be diligent, hardworking and meticulous across many platforms.

As a college student worker, I have been actively assisting new and prospective students understand and navigate college processes and procedures. Recently, I was responsible for providing invaluable assistance to a college open house event, for which I was highly commended by the college management.

From the most basic of administrative and clerical work such as records-keeping and data entry, to the more complex tasks such as admissions assistance and vendor liaison, I am a force in every area. Owing to the fact that I am energetic, resourceful and highly charged, I can handle a wide variety of tasks at the same time, without compromising on results.

Hoping to touch base with you in a meeting soon, I will call you at the end of next week to arrange one. If you need to contact me in the meantime, please call at (000) 333-8541.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Aiden Farrage
