Resignation Letter Due to Spouse Job Transfer

Updated on: June 20, 2023

Significant job transfers that require an individual to relocate can have a major impact on his / her family.

If you have found yourself in such a position where you have to pick up bag and baggage and relocate to another city or country for better prospects (because your husband or wife has been offered a great job), you will need to write a resignation letter to your employer or boss to explain the situation.

In your resignation letter, be honest about your reasons to leave. As a matter of fact, employers appreciate honesty even if it means that they will be losing a valued employee.

Your resignation letter should briefly chart out your reason to resign and provide a notice period. The notice period is important as you cannot just up and leave your employer in the lurch.

Mr. Owen Wilson
Marketing Manager
Vince
982 M Street
Fairbury, NE 88273

Dear Mr. Wilson:

I am writing this letter to resign from my position as a marketing officer for Vince. I love my work and company, but circumstances have prevailed that leave me no choice but to take this decision. Please note that my last day at work will be July 3, on a 2-week notice.

The reason for my resignation is that my husband has been transferred to Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions’ Head Office in Omaha and we have to relocate by the end of November. While both of us were initially unsure of doing this, we now agree that this is in the best interest of our future and that of our children.

Vince has been my home away from home for a long time and it was a very difficult decision to make. I am thankful to you and all my colleagues who have taught me all that I know and made me into the success that I am known for. I will miss everyone and wish everyone success in all their future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Caitlyn Sharp
